Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN) will be demonstrating its mastery of cloud computing at VoiceCon this week. The company will be showing its OpenScape Voice and UC applications running in the Amazon EC2 environment as a proof-of-concept.
Siemens says its OpenScape apps are "uniquely positioned" for deployment in cloud computing environments because they've been built on OpenSOA web services standards. The company has worked closely with Amazon Web services to demonstrate its solutions are compatible with the EC2 environment, but it notes that since OpenScape UC server and OpenScape voice are designed to be vendor agnostic and allow for open integration into/on other third-party cloud applications, there's the possibility for embedding communications into Amazon-hosted business process applications.
Given tight budgets these days, software-as-a-service - regardless of how it is delivered - is a very attractive option for enterprises. And this effort certainly helps Amazon gain more mindshare as a provider of business computing services, regardless of the size.
